Water is the most important factor for the proper functioning of the human body. Children who choose to “work” in the Water Laboratory follow the water cycle—from nature to the tap and back again. Taking on the role of lab technicians, they learn about the qualities that good, potable water must possess. The process by which water travels from its natural source to a household tap is explained to the children step-by-step: water abstraction from the river, the addition of chemical agents, sedimentation, filtration, pumping, and distribution throughout the city. Furthermore, an interactive installation featuring illuminated objects uses a sorting game to show children what should—and should not—be disposed of in the toilet versus the trash bin; it is an essential lesson on protecting the sewage system.
